Leaves usually 3-6 dm long, leaflets 10-14 (-18), narrowly ovate to lanceolate, 4.5-16 cm long, glabrous or at least sparsely pubescent, apex acute to caudate, base inequilateral. Calyx lobes ca. 1 mm long; petals white, ca. 5-6 mm long, margins ciliate; nectary disk pubescent; staminal filaments ca. 2 mm long, staminodes absent; ovary and style glabrous. Capsules reddish brown, with some lighter spots, ellipsoid, 2-2.8 cm long. Seeds brown, thin, dry, the embryo portion ca. 1-2 mm long with 2 wings, the longer one ca. 5-15 mm long, the other ca. half as long" (Wagner et al., 1999; pp. 920, 1885).
Habitat/ecology: "Forests and forest gaps, riparian habitats. A fast growing, light-demanding, early successional pioneer tree that spreads rapidly in disturbed forests and cleared areas. The tree is shade intolerant and becomes persistent once established. Little is know on the ecology of this tree as an invasive species" (Weber, 2003; p. 434).
In Hawaii, "extensively planted, primarily in forestry areas, and now at least sparingly naturalized in mesic to wet, disturbed habitats, 25-610 m" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 920).
Propagation: Wind-dispersed seed.
Native range: India, southeastern Asia, and Queensland and New South Wales, Australia; cultivated elsewhere as a fast-growing timber tree (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 920).

Comments: Often introduced as a forestry tree. Should be closely monitored for naturalization.
Control:
Physical: Hand pull or dig out seedlings and young plants.
Chemical: Cut larger trees and treat the stumps with herbicide (Weber, 2003; p. 434).
